It is hard to believe that it’s been more than a year since we gathered for supper in Kelley Hall and worshipped together inside our sanctuary. As we begin to climb out of the difficulties of the last year, it’s time for us to begin gathering as a community in the ways we know and love (and have missed this year!)

Our return won’t happen all at once. As excited as we are to begin returning, we want to be mindful as we do. We know that it will still be some time until our entire community is fully vaccinated and the ways we’re used to gathering are as safe to enjoy as they were before the pandemic began.

We’ll begin first by returning to worship inside on our 62nd Anniversary, May 2nd in Kelley Hall. We have made preparations for that space to feel more worshipful. It’s been wonderful to worship together outside, but we know it won’t be long before it’s too hot and muggy to be outside and we’re already wondering if we’ll continue to be able to dodge the Spring rains on Sunday mornings.

We’ll worship at 10am in Kelley Hall through the summer. Sunday School will remain online or in smaller group gatherings as the classes choose. We’ll continue meeting for Wednesday evening prayers and conversations at 6:30pm on Zoom through the end of June. We’ll suspend Wednesday evening gatherings in July and August.

We hope after staying so close to home this year, the summer will offer new opportunities to travel, see family, and make up for lost time and lost experiences out in the world! We hope you’ll enjoy the new found freedom that is arriving and do many of the things you’d hoped to this past year as you’re able over the summer.

We’ll make a full return to worship in the sanctuary, Sunday School in our building, and gathering for Wednesday night suppers the first week of September. We’ll come back with a bang! We’ll plan a feast for that first Wednesday of September and a wonderful worship experience for us to return to the Sanctuary as well. There will be so much to celebrate and we look forward to thinking through all the ways we can gather and celebrate.

Things will look different for a little while longer. We know we’re all anxious for them to look more like we remember, and they will soon! We give thanks for the wisdom of our Deacon and Worship Chairs as we put this new plan into motion and look forward to all that God will show us over the coming months as we return to what we love most about UBC: gathering together to be and become the body of Christ in our community. If you have any questions, please let us know.

As always, you belong!
