Shout-outs from some of our Back Door artists upon our 25th Anniversary:

“Happy 25, y’all! I’m SO PROUD to know you! Wishing the Back Door 25 more years of Peace, Love, and Music!”  Kate Campbell, Nashville

“‘Listening room’ and ‘music venue’ only begin to describe the Back Door Coffeehouse. To capture the essence of this place, you need words such as nuanced, hospitable, thoughtful, generous, and appreciative. And, of course, open because their doors are always just that. Congrats on 25 years, and thanks for treating your artists so well!”Claire Holley, Los Angeles

“Hello to all the folks who come to the Back Door to celebrate the joy music brings to life of beautiful melody and lyric. Happy 25th Anniversary!”Chuck Cannon, Nashville

“To everyone at The Back Door, a very, very Happy 25 years of bringing the music to the people! Thank you for making me feel a part of your family. Woohoo!”Sally Barris, Nashville

“Back Door Coffeehouse blesses all the right things about music and community. Congratulations on your 25th Anniversary.” Tom Kimmel — Tupelo

“Congrats, Back Door! Quite an accomplishment to build such a loving community over 25 years… So glad to be a small part of it.” Tricia Walker — Cleveland, Mississippi

“Congratulations, Back Door! Pierce Pettis here. You guys have always been great to me. Looking forward to seeing you again on May 5th! Take care.” Pierce Pettis — Menton, Alabama

“Sending lots of love from across the Atlantic to all at The Back Door Coffeehouse! Great big congratulations on your 25th anniversary, and huge thanks once again for the warm welcome, wonderful hospitality, and lovely atmosphere. You provided a fantastic start to my 2015 U.S. tour and I hope to see all of you again before too long!” Sarah McQuaid — Penzance, England

Please feel free to pass along an invitation to our event.

Now on WUSM!

The Back Door Coffeehouse is recorded live and broadcast by our good friends at WUSM 88.5 FM on the last Sunday of each month at 8pm. The Back Door opens at 7:00pm and the radio recording begins at 7:30. That gives you time to get your coffee and treats and find a table near the stage. We welcome you to bring in your own pizza, burger, or filet mignon, as well. We’ll have the silverware and your drinks.

About the Back Door Coffeehouse

Back Door Coffeehouse logoUniversity Baptist Church has served as the host of the monthly Back Door Coffeehouse since 1992. The Back Door is a unique ministry to the community where local writers, musicians, and poets are featured in an intimate and relaxed candlelight and coffee atmosphere. The Back Door is typically held on the first Friday of every month from 7:30 – 9:30P.M. There is no charge for admission, although donations for soft drinks, candy, coffee, and other costs are appreciated. Periodically, various nationally-known musicians and performers are secured by donations from patrons and neighborhood sponsors for special concerts to promote this unique artistic venue to a larger audience. Such acclaimed recording artists as Kate Campbell, Pierce Pettis, Spooner Oldham, Tom Kimmel, Caroline Herring, Tracy Grammer, and Steve Forbert have graced our stage. But we are also proud to promote the talents of our own local and regional musicians and writers. Our performers often portray a wide variety of ideas and styles. However, in supporting the open and honest artistic expression of our neighbors, there will, at times, be some readings neither intended nor appropriate for children. Childcare is provided for parents of young children without charge. If you wish to receive our monthly Back Door Coffeehouse e-mail messages, please contact us at coffeehouse@ubchm.org.
