We will begin with our usual potluck dinner at 6pm followed by a time of prayer and announcements. After prayer and announcements, we will break into small groups. Below are the groups that will begin this January 25.
Traditional Bible Study: Jesus in Luke

Amy Slagle is Assistant Professor of Religion in USM’s Department of Philosophy and Religion. She has a doctorate in religious studies from the University of Pittsburgh, and her research interests include Eastern Orthodox Christianity, religious conversion, ritual studies, Christian material/visual culture, and theories and methods in the study of religion. These 8 weeks, get to know Jesus through the eyes of Luke.
Alternative Bible Study: Animate BIBLE

Animate: BIBLE is seven-session DVD adult exploration of the Bible. The seven sessions for this study are listed below:

Practical Theology: Parable of the Prodigal Son with Henri Nouwen
led by Lee Walker
Each week this group will explore a different character in the Parable of the Prodigal Son. Participants will take part in practices of spiritual listening and journaling each week. In addition, each chapter ends with a practice based on the character explored that week. This study will challenge the participant to go deeper into the story and incorporate new practices into everyday life.
Book Study: Changing Our Minds by David Gushee
led by Rusty Edwards
For years, David Gushee has earned the reputation as America’s leading evangelical ethicist. Gushee teaches ethics at Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology, a CBF partner seminary, and also serves as Interim Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Decatur, Georgia. In Changing our Minds, Gushee takes the reader along his personal and theological journey as he changes his mind about LGBT inclusion in the church. Join Rusty as we read together and discuss how the Bible and Christian tradition opens the way for the full inclusion of our LGBT sisters and brothers in Christ. Gushee will also be presenting a public lecture on March 20 at USM. Building Projects

Youth
Our youth will continue with their curriculum Colaborate. This is a video and workbook curriculum with hands-on investigative learning that leads to deep engagement with the Bible.
UBC Kids
4:45-6:00pm in the Kitchings Building
Preschool & Children’s Choir
Children will prepare music for worship using the Growing in Grace curriculum.
Arts Rotation
Along with the choir, children will have opportunities to explore other worship arts. Activities might include creating covers for church bulletins, preparing for processions in worship, etc.
After Dinner – Spark
led by Jenny Edwards
Children will learn about CBF global Missions through experiential learning and mission engagement.
