I am so happy this month to be able to share with you all about our VBS experience! The children of UBC and the wider community participated in great works of hospitality, creating, sharing, learning and beginning new friendships. I am grateful for all the volunteers who gave of their time and talents to lead the children in their many activities. The choral hall was transformed: from walking up the ramp way and behind a cityscape, to entering into the room where all Picture5.VBSwas decked out with bright, vibrant colors. The music room was filled with singing and excitement. Outside were games, sidewalk chalk and sprinkler reprieve. The choral hall served as a bakery and a dining room as the kids mixed and molded their dough with great purpose and intention and ate their feasts with vigor. And our Godly Play rooms were full of wonder as stories were told and explored.

The majority of our final day of VBS was spent at Bedford Care where the residents greeted and invited our children into their home with excitement and grace. The love of God was truly felt in that room. In the words of Lida McDowell, “When you put older people and children together, something magical happens.” The residents of Bedford Care and the children of UBC heard the Godly Play story, “The Great Family” together and engaged Picture4.VBSin wondering about God and faith with one another. The children were able to serve the bread they had made themselves the days before, along with other treats, and we experienced the goodness of community. I give thanks to God for a beautiful three days. Thank you to all those who donated measuring spoons and cups, who prayed for our children and volunteers, and who offered words of encouragement and excitement throughout the week. Please continue to be in prayer for our children throughout the summer as we look forward to our Mission Bible Days and Passportkids! Camp.

Grateful,

Kat
