March 3 Back Door!
Friday, March 3 at 7:30 (doors open at 7:00pm)
First Friday in March
Join us on this special night as we welcome nationally-acclaimed singer-songwriter and guitarist ANDREW MCNIGHT to the Back Door stage.
Andrew McNight’s music celebrates rural America, weaving his masterfully crafted songs, humorous stories and poetic drama into a musical soundscape sketched with shades of Appalachia, tasteful slide and jazzy blues, feisty anthems, and rustic folk.
“The skillful songwriter’s interest in history is revealed in songs such as the Civil War ballad “The Road to Appomattox” and the soldier’s elegy “Wind Whispers Your Name.”…he avoids stridency by crafting vignettes told from the point of view of those in pain and keeps dourness at bay … He also works in true folkie tradition, updating lyrics to classic material such as “Worried Man Blues” or reworking Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads” to place himself mano-a-devil.”

About the Back Door Coffeehouse
University Baptist Church has served as the host of the monthly Back Door Coffeehouse since 1992. The Back Door is a unique ministry to the community where local writers, musicians, and poets are featured in an intimate and relaxed candlelight and coffee atmosphere.
The Back Door is typically held on the first Friday of every month from 7:30 – 9:30P.M. There is no charge for admission, although donations for soft drinks, candy, coffee, and other costs are appreciated. Periodically, various nationally-known musicians and performers are secured by donations from patrons and neighborhood sponsors for special concerts to promote this unique artistic venue to a larger audience. Such acclaimed recording artists as Kate Campbell, Pierce Pettis, Spooner Oldham, Tom Kimmel, Caroline Herring, Tracy Grammer, and Steve Forbert have graced our stage. But we are also proud to promote the talents of our own local and regional musicians and writers.
Our performers often portray a wide variety of ideas and styles. However, in supporting the open and honest artistic expression of our neighbors, there will, at times, be some readings neither intended nor appropriate for children. Childcare is provided for parents of young children without charge.
If you wish to receive our monthly Back Door Coffeehouse e-mail messages, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
