The author collected the quotations over his lifetime. When he was a young boy he formed a friendship with Faulkner while stealing apples from his tree. His friendship with Welty was formed by bringing her the New York Times each day. David Crews is a very interesting person himself. He has walked the 450 miles of the Natchez Trace, climbed the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere, helped raise over 2 million dollars for a children’s hospital and traveled the world. He serves as clerk for the federal courts of the Northern District of Mississippi. He and his family live in Oxford.
