The Back Door is happy to announce KATE CAMPBELL, TRICIA WALKER and SHARON GERALD as our scheduled guests. Kate is an internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter with over 20 years in the music business. Her gift for story-telling through music has brought comparison with literary institutions such as Flannery O’Connor, Eudora Welty, and William Faulkner.

triciawalier3Tricia Walker’s resume runs from the Mississippi Delta to Nashville and back. Along with touring with the likes of Shania Twain, Paul Overstreet, and Connie Smith, she has penned songs recorded by Faith Hill, Patty Loveless and Alison Krauss (whose performance of Tricia’s Looking In The Eyes Of Love won a Grammy). Tricia’s HEART OF DIXIE moved us to request she come celebrate Freedom Summer with us. Like Kate, Tricia Walker is also a singer-songwriter originally from Mississippi.  Kate and Tricia co-wrote the title track to Visions of Plenty.  You can hear Tricia’s background vocals on “Tupelo’s Too Far” (Moonpie Dreams) and on several songs from Twang on a Wire including “Funny Face,” “Honey on His Hands,” and “Satin Sheets.”

Sharon GeraldPoet, teacher, writer and photographer Sharon Gerald is the author of Thin Is The Kingdom. In Sharon Gerald’s wise and resilient poems, “Beauty swills about like / morning coffee.  Sleek black cats yearn toward sparrows  / forever out of grasp.  Dogwoods come to visit,” – Angela Ball

We’ve got a great evening of entertainment for you so join us June 3 for an amazing show. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Childcare available.

About the Back Door Coffeehouse

Back Door Coffeehouse logoUniversity Baptist Church has served as the host of the monthly Back Door Coffeehouse since 1992. The Back Door is a unique ministry of community where local writers, musicians, and poets are featured in an intimate and relaxed candlelight and coffee atmosphere typically held on the first Friday of every month from 7:00 – 9:30P.M. There is no charge for admission, although donations for soft drinks, candy, coffee, etc. are appreciated.

Periodically, various nationally known musicians and performers are secured by donations from patrons and neighborhood sponsors for special concerts to promote this unique artistic venue to a larger audience. Such acclaimed recording artists as Kate Campbell, Pierce Pettis, Caroline Herring, Tracy Grammer, and Steve Forbert have graced our stage, though we are also proud to promote the talents of our own regional musicians and writers. Performers often portray a wide variety of ideas and styles. In supporting the open and honest artistic expression of our neighbors, there will at times be some readings neither intended nor appropriate for children. A nursery worker is provided for parents without additional cost.

If you wish to receive our monthly Back Door Coffeehouse e-mail messages, please contact us at coffeehouse@ubchm.org. We open the back doors of the UBC fellowship hall by 6:30pm and the show (usually 3 live sets of music and/or readings) begins at 7:00.
