December 12 Back Door!

Friday, December 12 @ 7:30 (doors open at 7pm)

treeplain9,000 MILES!

Sharon Miles and Toby Barker bring the band and their own inimitable musical stylings to the Back Door for our December show! We set up the big stage for the return of the largest band (7 to 10 members with bass, guitars, violins, drums, keyboard) that we ever host for that rich, full-bodied sound!

Yes, it’s the return of our own not-ready-for-prime-time Readers Theatre Troup(e)? Woullard and Walker appear as pre-historic hunter-gatherers in “Prehistoric Foreshadowings or Creative Evolution, Live!”

The Back Door opens at 7pm and shows start at 7:30. That gives you time to get your coffee, coke, treats, and find a table near the stage. Our new B.Y.O.F. policy means we welcome bringing in your own pizza, burger or filet mignon as well! We have silverware and your drinks. Remember we’re donation only, but all donations (great or small) make the difference!

Suggested donation: $10

  • Soft drinks / bottled water
  • Popcorn and candy treats
  • Babysitter in church nursery.

About the Back Door Coffee House

unnamedUniversity Baptist Church has served as the host of the monthly Back Door Coffeehouse since 1992. The Back Door is a unique ministry of community where local writers, musicians, and poets are featured in an intimate and relaxed candlelight and coffee atmosphere typically held on the first Friday of every month from 7:30 – 9:30P.M. There is no charge for admission, although donations for soft drinks, candy, coffee, etc. are appreciated.

Periodically, various nationally known musicians and performers are secured by donations from patrons and neighborhood sponsors for special concerts to promote this unique artistic venue to a larger audience. Such acclaimed recording artists as Kate Campbell, Pierce Pettis, Caroline Herring, Tracy Grammer, and Steve Forbert have graced our stage, though we are also proud to promote the talents of our own regional musicians and writers. Performers often portray a wide variety of ideas and styles. In supporting the open and honest artistic expression of our neighbors, there will at times be some readings neither intended nor appropriate for children. A nursery worker is provided for parents without additional cost.

If you wish to receive our monthly Back Door Coffeehouse e-mail messages, please contact us at We open the back doors of the UBC fellowship hall by 7:00pm and the show (usually 3 live sets of music and/or readings) begins at 7:30.

Bring a friend or come makes some new ones. We look forward to seeing you at the Back Door.

If you have questions about performing, promoting, or otherwise becoming involved with the coffeehouse, please contact David Walker at the Coffeehouse e-mail address above.

NEW POLICY!  You may now bring your own food into the Back Door to enjoy with our complimentary cokes, water, and coffee! So, grab that pizza, burger, or taco, and set your table for a treat.
