Studying the Scriptures is the central to growing in relationship with God. By spending time reading, discussing, and pondering the Bible, we can better understand the character of God and God’s plan for our lives.
We encourage everyone from preschoolers to senior adults to gather with other believers in Bible study through Sunday School and other small group classes. At UBC, we are not afraid to wrestle with challenging questions about the Bible and our calling to walk in the way of Jesus. Our classes provide opportunities for lively discussions, support in difficult times, social gatherings, and mission involvement.
Our church provides classes for all ages and interests. Some groups are designed according to age groupings, some are gender-based, and some are based on studies of specific issues. Feel free to try out a class or two until you find the one that fits you best.
Sunday School at UBC offers many opportunities for Christian growth and development. Our program begins with our earliest learners in the bed baby room and continues through adult classes. Our children’s classes are transitioning to a Montessori method of Christian education called Godly Play . Our youth class is led by our youth minister and varies in topic. Several adult classes use literature developed by Smyth and Helwys. We also have classes that use various books and other topics chosen by the teacher and class members for study. Although we do have classes that are gender and/or age specific, we also offer many classes that are open to all and have a unique blend of cross-generational members. At UBC, you are sure to find a place to study, learn, and become a part of a group of caring, Christian friends seeking to learn more about God and how to serve God more fully. We will be glad to help you find a class.
Periodically, we provide small group opportunities for study. These opportunities usually last from six to eight weeks and have a particular focus. These groups often meet in homes.
Winter Bible Study
Each year, UBC invites a teacher/scholar to lead a special study. Most sessions are held over a weekend and are combined with meals and time for fellowship at the church. Recent sessions have been led by Chuck Poole of Northminster Baptist, Jackson, MS; Alan Culpepper, McAfee School of Theology, Mercer University, Atlanta, GA; Chuck Bugg, White Divinity School, Gardner-Webb University, Boiling Springs, NC; Todd Still, George W. Truett Seminary, Baylor University, Waco, TX; and Jim Dant of Faithlab, Macon, GA.
