August 4 Back Door!

Friday, August 4 at 7:30 (doors open at 7:00pm)

Tricia Walker

triciawalier3The Back Door is happy to welcome back to the stage singer-songwriter TRICIA WALKER for a return visit. Tricia Walker’s résumé runs from the Mississippi Delta to Nashville and back. Along with touring with the likes of Shania Twain, Paul Overstreet, and Connie Smith, she has penned songs recorded by Faith Hill, Patty Loveless and Alison Krauss (whose performance of Tricia’s Looking In The Eyes Of Love won a Grammy). Tricia’s HEART OF DIXIE moved us to request she come celebrate Freedom Summer with us. Tricia also heads the Delta Music Institute at Delta State University where The New Agrarians recorded their new CD, so we know she’s a Back Door natural!

ABE PARTRIDGE

abe.partridgeOpening for Tricia is Alabama based singer-songwriter ABE PARTRIDGE. Abe is making his Back Door debut, so come on out and show him a true southern welcome. We’ve got a great evening of entertainment for you so join us August 4 for an amazing show. Doors open at 7:00pm and Abe will take the stage at 7:10.

“When it is all said and done the name Abe Partridge will be among the giants of songwriting. He’s not some skinny jeans, backwards ball cap wearing-tool that sings of bubblegum and toes in the sand. This cat is a war veteran and a former holy roller preacher that has probably seen too much. He is not afraid to write tales about the evils of bathsalts, the corruptness of organized religion, war or any other topic most people wouldn’t dare. A live performance shows a young man that is probably wrapped a little too tight – and you leave there hoping he is okay. One of a kind!”

JIM PENNINGTON, owner – The Listening Room Mobile, AL

Shout-outs from some of our Back Door artists upon our 25th Anniversary:

“Happy 25, y’all! I’m SO PROUD to know you! Wishing the Back Door 25 more years of Peace, Love, and Music!”  Kate Campbell, Nashville

“‘Listening room’ and ‘music venue’ only begin to describe the Back Door Coffeehouse. To capture the essence of this place, you need words such as nuanced, hospitable, thoughtful, generous, and appreciative. And, of course, open because their doors are always just that. Congrats on 25 years, and thanks for treating your artists so well!”Claire Holley, Los Angeles

“Hello to all the folks who come to the Back Door to celebrate the joy music brings to life of beautiful melody and lyric. Happy 25th Anniversary!”Chuck Cannon, Nashville

“To everyone at The Back Door, a very, very Happy 25 years of bringing the music to the people! Thank you for making me feel a part of your family. Woohoo!”Sally Barris, Nashville

Great big congratulations on your 25th anniversary, and huge thanks once again for the warm welcome, wonderful hospitality, and lovely atmosphere. You provided a fantastic start to my 2015 U.S. tour and I hope to see all of you again before too long!”

About the Back Door Coffeehouse

Back Door Coffeehouse logoUniversity Baptist Church has served as the host of the monthly Back Door Coffeehouse since 1992. The Back Door is a unique ministry to the community where local writers, musicians, and poets are featured in an intimate and relaxed candlelight and coffee atmosphere. The Back Door is typically held on the first Friday of every month from 7:30 – 9:30P.M. There is no charge for admission, although donations for soft drinks, candy, coffee, and other costs are appreciated. Periodically, various nationally-known musicians and performers are secured by donations from patrons and neighborhood sponsors for special concerts to promote this unique artistic venue to a larger audience. Such acclaimed recording artists as Kate Campbell, Pierce Pettis, Spooner Oldham, Tom Kimmel, Caroline Herring, Tracy Grammer, and Steve Forbert have graced our stage. But we are also proud to promote the talents of our own local and regional musicians and writers. Our performers often portray a wide variety of ideas and styles. However, in supporting the open and honest artistic expression of our neighbors, there will, at times, be some readings neither intended nor appropriate for children. Childcare is provided for parents of young children without charge. If you wish to receive our monthly Back Door Coffeehouse e-mail messages, please contact us at coffeehouse@ubchm.org.
